Plan and Risk

2019 [March 16 – April 20]

Periscope Gallery of Contemporary Art – Belo Horizonte, MG – Brazil

In the Plano e Risco exhibition , we are taken by the evidence of a place that projects itself on the notion
of an imprecise border, in a borderline space between the known and the unknown, between security and indeterminacy.

Through different paths, between empty, unknown and fragmented spaces present
in the works, we can find ourselves in a complex of images, a space of uncertainty,
of the indeterminacy and suspension of reason, which opens towards the other, the world, history
and to the unknown. The realization of the landscapes, which dominate the imagery universe in the artist's work, involve a great deal of uncertainty and provisionality generated by their own characteristics.
materials chosen and the techniques and processes used. Hargreaves explores different paths through the works, which are exhaustively constructed and related to questions surrounding the elaboration of a place.

The artist searches in border regions for some information that escapes, as if infesting these external spaces: information that invades the demarcations that separate and define; objects suspended in the void.

Each drawing refers to a possible place, which is interconnected in a way by the aesthetic proximity
and technical, however they show that they are not connected to a single space, but mention a distant, mythological place, at the same time present and common.

Hargreaves seems to question us, through images, about the forms and relationships in which the physical memory of the terrain is added to individual and collective memories, whether through the construction of images - drawings - signs, which interconnect, or in the dimensions of the landscape natural and in the presence
of human interference in this landscape.

With the fictionalization of places and territories, in constant construction and transformation, the drawings
they open up as vectors for reflection on the geographic, historical and political space in which we are inserted. They point to the possibility of thinking about the construction of one's own imagery, inferring importance in the formulation of image making that takes place, both in relation to the act of drawing and
in the space opened up by the vision and elaboration that occur through the observer's gaze.
